American's In Paris

Over the many years I have been reading fashion magazines I have seen many editorials and that means if one stays in my memory, especially one that is not an haute couture spread anyways, then it more than likely had amazing styling that will stand the test of time.  Who would have thought that this spring editorial from two years ago would feel so perfect for fall now?  And it is interesting to see what trends reappear, I would never have predicted that bare mid-drifts would be seen again.  I have been wanting to share this for a while, but I was waiting for fall to arrive, I hope you enjoy it!

What I Would Wear To: Saint-Tropez

Images: My Polyvore Set, Tumblr

One of my lovely readers requested that I create an outfit to wear to Saint Tropez.  This was a really fun one for me as I would have never thought of Saint Tropez.  At first I was lost at where to start, but then I remembered the Joseph Altuzarra for J.Crew collection that was inspired by Bridgitte Bardot in Saint Tropez.  I chose my favorite dress from the collection and paired it with a wicker Hermès Kelly handbag, an Hermès scarf I would wear as a headband and a vintage Chanel charm bracelet.  Even though Saint Tropez is known for it's beaches, I wanted my dream outfit to still be chic and pulled together.  Please leave any requests in the comments below!  The requests are my favorite to do!

Inspiration: Tennis Chic

Images: Style.com, Thisisglamorous.com, Tumblr

With the weather getting warmer everyday, I have been feeling drawn to the tennis court.  And while I am not athletic in the slightest, I have always enjoyed tennis and would love to play again.  When I was  younger I even had the cute outfits, which I admit added to the appeal of the game, and I have lately been inspired by the classic preppy style of tennis clothing.  This Hermes Spring 2010 RTW collection is the perfect inspiration for adding some pieces to my spring and summer wardrobe.  What are you inspired by this season?

Book Review: Scarves

Images: homedesign.marthastewart.com

As you may have noticed, I have a recent fascination with silk scarves such as the Hermès and  Louis Vuitton ones I previously shared, which have come into style again.  I recently read a wonderful new book called "Scarves" by Nicky Albrechtsen and Fola Solanke which gives a visual history of scarves.  The book contains over 257 illustrations that show different interpretations of the scarf.  The book contains designs by Christian Lacroix, Nicole Miller, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and more.  This book would make a perfect gift for any woman loves beautiful things, one does not have to like fashion to enjoy this book.  The scarves shown above were designed by Yves Saint Laurent, Tannus Jeefe, an unknown designer, and Balenciaga.

The History Of: The Hermes Scarf

Hermes Scarves

Silk scarves have come back into style this season, although did they ever really leave?  This trend has had me thinking about the most famous silk scarf, the Hermès ones.  The Hermès scarf, commonly known as the carré, was first introduced in 1928.  Hermès oversaw the production of its scarves throughout the entire process, they purchased the raw Chinese silk, spinning it into yarn, and then weaving it into fabric that was twice as strong as most scarves available at the time.  One of the first designed was a print of white-wigged females playing a popular period game and it was a custom made accessory named Jeu des Omnibus et Dames Blanches.  Each scarf is individually printed with vegetable dye.  Each added color has to dry for a month before the next color is applied.  The designers have over 200,000 different colors to choose from, forty-three is the highest number of screens used on one scarf.  This was the “Charity” scarf released in 2006.  When the production of the scarves first began there was a dedicated scarf factory in Lyon, France; that year Hermès celebrated its 100th anniversary.  Contemporary Hermès scarves measure 90 cm × 90 cm, weigh 65 grams and are woven from the silk of 250 mulberry moth cocoons.  All hems of the scarves are hand-stitched using a technique called hand-rolling.  Each silk scarf takes around 350 hours to make!  Today scarves cost from around $300 dollars and up, which does not sound as pricey now that I know how much work goes into each scarf.

Hermès Un Jardin Sur Le Toit

 Images: weheartit.com

Hermès has introduced a new perfume in their garden collection inspired by their roof top garden in Paris.  Un Jardin Sur Le Toit contains notes of apple, pear, magnolia, rose, and green herbs.  I have yet to smell this perfume as it has not been widely distributed yet, I believe it is currently only available in Hermes boutiques, but it sounds like the perfect fresh, light, summer fragrance to me.  Have any of you tried it yet?  If so, what do you think?

The History Of: The Birkin Bag

Images: weheartit.com

While the Hermes Birkin bag has been a favorite of mine, and countless others, for years I had no idea of the history behind it.  I knew it was made for Jane Birkin, but did not really know who she was.  When I researched her I also found the story of how the famous Birkin bag was created.  Jane Birkin was an English born actress and singer who made many french films and music. She is infamous for the scandalous song, "Je t'aime...moi non plus."  In 1981 handbag history was made when she was seated next to Jean-Louis Dumas, chief executive of Hermés, on a flight from Paris to London.  She had placed her straw bag in the overhead compartment, but the contents fell out and she had to scramble to replace the contents.  She began to explain to Dumas that it had been very difficult to find a leather weekend bag that she liked.  In 1984, he created the Birkin bag, in a black supple leather, for her!  The handbag was based off a 1892 design, and while Jane Birkin did not use the bag for long it has become an icon.

Hermes Kelly Wicker Handbag

Image: overhours.com
Straw or wicker bags can sometimes result into sloppy totes that only look suitable for the beach, but this Hermes Kelly wicker bag is the perfect summer bag.  This handbag is structured and clean looking but has the traditional summer fabric trimmed with tan leather.  Overall a handbag one could carry summer after summer.

Hermes Bracelet

The Hermes Farandole PM bracelet is made of 18 karat rose gold.  I am not a fan of large chunky bracelets, so this one is perfect in my opinion.  I like smaller bracelets that look pretty on my wrist instead of overbearing ones.  I like a string of pearls or a dangling charm bracelet.

Grace Kelly

Grace Kelly was unbelievably beautiful, elegant, and regal.  She was an extremely beloved actress  and starred in movies such as High Society, To Catch a Thief, and Rear Window.  She was considered American royalty, but eventually became the Queen of Monaco.  She was a fashion icon and Hermes even named a purse after her.
