Book Review: Scarves

Images: homedesign.marthastewart.com

As you may have noticed, I have a recent fascination with silk scarves such as the Hermès and  Louis Vuitton ones I previously shared, which have come into style again.  I recently read a wonderful new book called "Scarves" by Nicky Albrechtsen and Fola Solanke which gives a visual history of scarves.  The book contains over 257 illustrations that show different interpretations of the scarf.  The book contains designs by Christian Lacroix, Nicole Miller, Yves Saint Laurent, Balenciaga and more.  This book would make a perfect gift for any woman loves beautiful things, one does not have to like fashion to enjoy this book.  The scarves shown above were designed by Yves Saint Laurent, Tannus Jeefe, an unknown designer, and Balenciaga.

Book Review: The Golden Age Of Couture

Image: accessory-addict.blogspot

The Golden Age of Couture, Paris and London 1947-57 edited by Claire Wilcox is an intricate look into what is considered the golden age of couture.  The golden age of couture took place during 1947 to 1957, the ten years in which Christian Dior designed couture.  While the beautiful pictures of the elegant glamorous clothing of the time is enough reason to buy this book, the in depth history of the great couturiers of the time, such as Cristóbal Balenciaga, makes for an interesting read.  I highly recommend this book for anyone to read or as a perfect gift for anyone who loves fashion.

Elie Saab Fall 2011 RTW

Images: NYMAG.com, my personal Polyvore account.

This dress from the Elie Saab Fall 2011 RTW collection is stunning, although I do not think the color is right for fall. I think it would be a beautiful dress to wear in winter or even while it is still cold at night in early spring which is slowly slipping away now for warmer weather.
