A Few Of My Favorite Things...

Perfume in pretty bottles, watching old movies in bed, especially ones staring Audrey Hepburn, and pretty lingerie...

Classic Oscar de la Renta

Image: Carla Bruni for Oscar de la Renta via weheartit.com. Definition: dictionary.com.

The dictionary defines elegance as:

1. Dignified grace in appearance, movement, or behavior.
2. Good taste in design, style, arrangement, etc.
3. Something elegant; a refinement.

But a simpler definition, in my opinion, is Oscar de la Renta.

Details At Marchesa Spring 2012 RTW

Images: Vogue.com

While there are many wonderful things to say about Marchesa, the details are the best.  The absolutely exquisite beading and tulle is on a completely different level than any of the other collections shown in recent years.  Not to say other designers have not shown work of such a high caliber, but they tend not to show an entire ready to wear collection with such stunning details.  I am in awe of the first photograph's neckline, any even better?  Their new bridal line has a similar dress but in white of course.  I suggest you all check out the new collection, it is beautiful and would make any wedding a true fairy tale.

Retro Looks For Fall

Images: weheartit.com

I love this retro inspired editorial of Georgia May Jagger, shot by Craig Mcdean for W September 2010.  I have always like the proportions of long sleeved dresses, I know the second dress is short sleeved but it was too beautiful to leave out,  and they are a warmer way to stay more elegant than frumpy when cold weather sets in.  Just add tights or a trench coat and you will be plenty warm as well as chic!

Decor Inspiration: Marble and Mirrors

Images: weheartit.com

I have not done a decor post in a while, and while I know bathrooms don't sound that exciting I found these lovely pictures of one.  Women spend a lot of time in their bathrooms, so why not make it a nice place to be.  I love the clean look of the white marble and the shiny mirrors.  I would love to do my hair and make-up in this bathroom!

Fall Is Frantic

Images: weheartit.com

I apologize for my complete lack of posts for the last week; between midterms and work I have just been too busy!  So busy that the only thoughts I have had on fashion and beauty are ballet flats and chignons that require almost no efforts before rushing out the door.  Some of you asked for an update on my last post, and the J. Crew dress came today and fit perfectly!  I was nervous as strapless dresses have to fit perfectly, but I got very lucky and can not wait to wear it as the weather is strangely hot where I live.

My New Dress

Image: J.Crew.com

I just ordered this dress from J. Crew yesterday, I really like how simple and classic it is.  And the corseted bodice looks really nice when you zoom in on the website.  What do you think? Do you like it?

Street Style: Miranda Kerr

Images: weheartit.com, studdedhearts

This is a first for me as I have never posted street style photographs. But there is a first time for everything!  While my style is quite different, I could not help but be drawn to model Miranda Kerr's style; especially her outstanding taste in handbags.  I also love her sunglasses which she is wearing in almost all of these photographs, but that might be bias as I have been wearing the same pair for years.

Ballerina Style Once Again

Images: weheartit.com

With the weather cooling down I have been drawn back to the lovely pictures of the Russian ballerina's in J. Crew's September catalog  From Russia With Love which I featured previously.  The warm sweaters sound very appealing for the cold mornings we've been having lately and the many cold days to come.  Not to mention, I am favoring the ballerina inspired convenience of hair pulled back into chignons, for windy days, soft leather ballet flats, and pretty ribbon details to  dress up the simpler sweaters.

Beautiful Sketches By Edith Head

Images: alovelybeing.com

Aren't these sketches lovely?  They were drawn by Edith Head when she was designing Grace Kelly's costumes for Rear Window.  They were auctioned off at Christie's for around $13,000!  I am in love with the first sketch, I love how feminine and and ladylike it is with the high neckline and cinched waist.

Elie Saab Spring 2012 RTW

Images: style.com

As usual, Elie Saab put out another stunning collection.  And as usual I favored white gowns.  And while the collection was beautiful, I am hoping for a little more variety next season.  Although the short lace dress shown above was a nice change from the usual long gowns.  And make sure to take a close look at the shoes, they are perfect!

How To Dress Up Fall Neutrals

Images: weheartit.com

Fall and winter bring many lovely classic pieces, however most sweaters and coats come in basic fabrics.  And while I prefer these styles to busy patterns, they sometimes need to be dressed up.  All you need is some sparkly jewelry, I have recently taken a liking to art deco style bracelets.  Take the clothes from the pictures above and add the jewelry shown and no more boring basics!

1950's Inspiration From Louis Vuitton

While this Louis Vuitton ad is from last fall, the 1950's trend has reappeared.  It has been seen on the spring runways, so keep last fall's purchases in mind for spring!
